PETALING JAYA: Award-winning songwriter Rosli Khamis , better known as Loloq, died here yesterday following an operation to remove a blood clot in his brain.
He was admitted to the Damansara Specialist Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit here at 6am on Sunday after falling into a coma, and underwent surgery on Monday to remove the clot.
Loloq, 50, was reportedly in stable condition on Tuesday but passed away at 1.37pm.
Persatuan Karyawan Malaysia president Freddie Fernandez said the industry had lost one of its “no-nonsense and prolific” writers.
“His passing was so sudden. We are highly indebted to Loloq as he wrote the lyrics for hit songs such as Mawi’s Aduh Saliha and the duet with M. Nasir, Lagu Jiwa Lagu Cinta.”
Rock singer Amy Search said: “It’s very sad ? this will definitely send shockwaves through the music industry. He was a real class act.”
Fellow lyricist Habsah Hassan said Loloq’s passing would be a great loss as he was a prominent and consistent lyricist.
A frequent collaborator with singer, songwriter and composer M. Nasir, Loloq penned songs like Andalusia, Bonda (performed by Nasir), Aladin, Cinta Dewa Dewi (Spider), Dewi (Hattan), Awan Yang Terpilu (Ning Baizura), Nafas Cinta (Misha Omar) and Angan dan Sedar (Mawi).
He also composed Demi Semangat Kesukanan, which was sung by Lynn Ali for the 2001 SEA Games.
The Singapore-born songwriter also acted in movies such as Zombi Kampung Pisang, Embun, Senario Lang Buana and Man Laksa.
Apart from writing the script for Orang Minyak and the soon-to-be-filmed Aduh Saliha, he was judge and critic for TV shows such as Bintang Kecil and Akademi Fantasia.
Loloq is survived by wife Hariah Yaacob and three children Krsty Nur, 11, Jaevn Nur, eight, and Yasha Nur, six.
He was buried at 5pm yesterday at the Muslim cemetery in Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh.
